Maybe it’s age, maybe it’s my sedentary Office job, but whatever it is, I am trying to get in control of my weight. Now, I’m not going to stand here and rant about how overweight I am – it’s all subjective. I am 5 feet tall, so a few extra pounds on me, is the equivalent of 5 to 10 pounds on someone of average height. While I am not a health expert and this post is not supposed to give you any professional advice on losing weight, I’ll share my tips on how I am amping up my workout routines and making some minor changes in my eating habits.

  1. Schedule Your Workouts – The hardest thing for me, and for most of us millennials trying to balance a full-time job, several side hustles, relationships, friendships, etc., is TIME. I work 40 to 60 hour weeks, in and out of the Office, and most nights I am so tired. Most of you know I teach fitness classes, so that gets me up and moving most of the time. I teach 3 to 4 times a week, and I’ve made the mistake of equating that to my own workouts. No sir – that has not been working in my favor. The ONLY way I make sure I get in enough workouts is to schedule them. I get bored easily, so I try to schedule at least one cycle, yoga, and OrangeTheory class a week.
  2. Add in Small Workouts When You Can – In addition to my scheduled classes, I’ll add in small workouts here and there. Bryan and I will sometimes go to the small gym in our apartment building before dinner and I can get some cardio in there. I try to take some stairs at work and in the parking garage. Every little bit counts, so don’t ignore the chances throughout your day. 15 minutes on the treadmill can completely get rid of a headache or that brain fog you get at the end of the work day.
  3. Track Your Workouts & Calories (but not obsessively!) – I got the new Fitbit Charge 2, and it has totally changed how I workout Besides OrangeTheory, I never work out with a heart rate monitor. The first thing I learned when I started wearing my FitBit was that I totally overestimated the amount of calories I burn in a workout! Ugh. The FitBit syncs to my phone so I can track all my workouts, the classes I teach, and my daily steps. You can also enter in your food intake on the app. I’ve become more conscious of what I eat and how much. But as my caveat above states, don’t become completely obsessed with measuring every little thing. Unless that’s your thing of course, then go right ahead! Find whatever helps you stay accountable and motivated.
  4. Pick A Healthy Treat – Whether it’s workout clothes or fun smoothies, pick something that you can look forward to and that motivates you to keep going to your workouts or stay on track with your diet. I’ve gotten into juices – JRINK Juicery and South Block Co. are two of my favorites. They make fresh pressed juices (South Block Co. also makes smoothies) that you can store in the fridge and take on the go for a healthy snack. My favorite juices have activated charcoal in them – they look scary, but they are so good and get all the bad toxins out of your system!

Quick note on my cute workout outfit from Lauren James.  My favorite prep-style company has launched an activewear line, and it is SO adorable.  The Set in Motion leggings are super comfortable, and true to size (I am wearing a small).  The pants have a wide band that totally stays put during my barre classes!  For the top portion, I got a small in the tank and medium in the sports bra.   Plus, how adorable is the sports bra?!  The bow is the cutest touch, and it pairs perfectly with the tank!

I hope you enjoy these tips! Let me know what you do to increase your workouts and keep up your healthy habits.
